~ Professional Skills Overview ~

Introduction

Print Version

I perform an executive consultancy role for a consortia of organizations: a non-profit, a registered charity, a land development group, and various business entities. I attend to the areas of fund and business development, volunteer management, IT support, and the demands of marketing/ communications/ public relations. I meet complex demands, within this oversight capacity, utilizing a strong set of personal resources (e.g., database development expertise, advanced technology acumen, adeptness at public speaking and written communication, exacting professionalism, engaging people skills, and excellent time management skills).

The range of my daily stakeholder interface includes, but is not limited to corporate and government institutions, community associations, outreach links, licensing bodies, the Media, philanthropists, volunteers, board members, teaching faculty, City Hall planning & development departments, and the public at large.

I possess a keen sense of organization and attention to detail. My productivity and work outputs equal those of two persons. I work independently as I strive for excellence and achieve quality deliverables through a strong work ethic. I am a practiced multi-tasker who thrives under pressure and meets deadlines on task and within budget.

I am described as a passionate visionary and a positive change agent. I place high importance on team synergy, alliance building, collaborative dialogue, and continuous outcome evaluation in a successful working environment.

A concise overview of my business skills is included below:

Marketing / Communications Specialist
My communication strategies relate to a variety of objectives: donor stewardship, funding appeals, volunteer management, grant proposals, formal business applications, internal policy definition, capital campaign initiatives, identifying marketing opportunities, promotion & marketing plans and target evaluations, event organizing (golf tournaments, charity drives, etc), executive & public presentations, business report preparations, etc.
I design and implement solutions that provide organizational visibility and accessibility. Examples of on-going communication projects are a full WEB and social media presence, newsletter creation, multi-media program guides, print and electronic promotional materials, Media Liaison (TV/radio/newspaper ‘Press Kits’, preparing human interest copy, coordinating Press interviews), and creating cost-effective, mission critical information packages.

I promote innovative leveraging to clients, which underscores my belief in the power and value of an entrepreneurial approach to communication strategy.
Work samples of my communication & marketing outputs, exemplify the importance of maintaining visual congruity and brand identification through consistent use of logo and organizational trademarks.

My role is to be proactive to the needs of potential supporters-stakeholders, and to anticipate needs of the board, executive, and management teams (e.g., forming an advisory panel, spearheading a well-circumscribed research initiative, or exploring a new communication action proposal).

Business Advisor / Researcher / Analyst

I analyze business trends, make recommendations on strategic directions, and provide comprehensive analyses and research to support recommendations. I currently coordinate the logistics of a construction project for of a multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art centre, e.g., this includes originating/coordinating land acquisitions, architectural schemas, development proposals, project management correspondence, stakeholder communiqués, vendor negotiations, architect/engineer interface, and City Hall presentations to planners, developers, Alderman, and the Mayor.

In support of organizational needs, I build and maintain databases for Customer Intake Registrations, Home Visitation programs, Accounts Payable record keeping, and other custom designed bookkeeping tools using advanced Excel.

FundRaiser / Promotor

My fund development role includes new donor acquisitions (individual and corporate), cold canvassing, executive presentations, event organizing, donor stewardship, and meeting aggressive targets. Some of these goals include a new building Capital Campaign ( on-going 3.8M goal); Annual Christmas Fund campaign ($120-$150K/yr goal); Program pillars support ($75K-$100K /yr); Transportation Funding drives ($68-75K/yr); Therapy Program Support ($65K/yr); Educational IT Support ($30-50K/yr).

For these initiatives I have built and maintain a custom Donor Database (among many others). It provides donor/contribution data collection (incl. in-kind gift inventories), standard and exception reporting, automated issuance of receipt and donor correspondence, etc. I also develop and maintain all electronic, print and WEB-related promotional materials. I define policy and procedures related to the charitable dispositions of the organizations I serve, while ensuring the integrity of the funding process.

Internal Communications Advisor

I support the varied requirements of ‘special needs’ teachers, administrators, and therapists in the delivery and promotion of health, speech, occupational and behavioural intervention programs, e.g., streamlining internal documentation, establishing written procedures and guidelines, developing life skills curricula for client programs, designing turnkey communication templates, and fashioning new ways to capture date and render useful information for the organization's communication and decision-making needs.

Internal communication is facilitated by my creation of custom databases for information retrieval, program assessment, and evaluation of various strategies and campaigns. This approach also includes the creation of organizational IntraNETs to afford staff and management a communications platform across decentralized sites.

My formal education includes a Master’s Degree in educational communications, adult education, instructional design, and educational technology. I am highly adept at using computer tools as complementary means to support communication strategies—to design, develop and deliver a compelling human message to the broadest audience.

Adult Educator / Public Speaker
My work includes the creation and maintenance of a variety of business documents including Business Plans, Strategic Directions, Board Governance Guidelines, and comprehensive funding/licensing outcomes reporting. I provide organizational needs analysis, and recommend/prepare proposals for research initiatives.

I have maintained a rewarding instructor profile with major colleges in Calgary, imparting difficult subject matter to adults and youth. I achieve great personal satisfaction in the creative reworking of conventional communication approaches that a classroom provides.

I continuously interface with funders, business partners, etc., as I conduct regular speaking engagements. I have presented at Teaching & Best Practices conferences in regards to educational communication using technology. I have designed and developed conference promotional materials and provided direct consultation support, in the specialized field of online communications, to university faculty and staff.

Medical Administrator / Business Manager
As an administrator in family-based, medical, and surgical practices, I have addressed real-time, communication demands in busy, private clinics. I am able to establish clear, concise, written, and verbal communication standards. I have developed a hierarchical communication protocol, and maintained inter-specialty and general practice relationships by facilitating collegial and professional networking events. Higher profile communications include complex and responsible dealings involving sensitive and confidential materials and issues. These interchanges have occurred at all levels: with provincial agencies, hospital medical personnel, the College of Physicians & Surgeons Registrar, medical associations and academies, a variety of legal and business entities, and engaging with patients in a front-line-care capacity. My Compensation management role included standard HR , Payroll and benefits administration tasks.
In Summary . . .
This overview represents the product of in-depth business generalist experience, provided by a wide variety of challenging career opportunities.
